Novapoint and Quadri to empower Brussels Metro

To meet the Belgian capitol's advanced needs in future metro and infrastructure design STIB (Société des Transports Intercommunaux de Bruxelles) has turned to Vianova Systems Benelux BVBA to effectively modernize its design and engineering capabilities. The all-inclusive delivery consists of a host of specialized software tools from Vianova Systems (now a Trimble company) and Autodesk, as well as comprehensive implementation services.

Brussels is planning to invest 5,2 Billion Euros by 2025 to increase the transport mobility and the quality of life in the city. The objective is to reduce congestion, pollution and noise by adding more subways, trams and buses. STIB´s investment in a new model-based software environment is a fundamental part in achieving this ambitious goal.

Overall objectives for the new infrastructure design solution are to replace STIB´s old WINSTAR solution with a modern, easy-to-use BIM solution – adapted to local standards and based on a 3D database with strong visualization capabilities.

Vianova Systems Benelux BVBA, who won the tender, has signed a 7-year frame agreement with STIB.

Contract details of the first delivery include an advanced BIM for infrastructure solution, comprising a combination of Trimble Novapoint, Trimble Quadri and misc. Autodesk products for rail and infrastructure design. Also included are an electronic document management system (EDMS), relevant building design software and the required implementation services (installation, customization, training etc).

After the implementation has been completed approximately 300 STIB users will take advantage of the new systems.
